The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges proposes to undertake three major and interlocking applied research initiatives during the period 2007-2010:
1) The Next Generation of Higher Education Trustees & Leaders will take on responsibility for colleges, universities, and foundations likely to be substantially changed from those the previous generation dealt with.
2) When Boards Must Lead: Governing and the Transition in Academic Leadership is a multi-year study of the process(es) entailed by the departure of a sitting president, the search and recruitment of a new president, and the integration of a new president into the institution she/he will lead.
3) AGB Higher Education Governance Annual Survey. AGB plans to launch a comprehensive annual survey that will continue over time to reveal the state and health of higher education trusteeship.
